ABOUT POWAY POLO CLUB

Our interscholastic and adult programs have organized practice and club chukkers every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays. In addition to our weekly club sponsored events, Poway Polo offers its membership the opportunity to participate in ongoing clinics and to compete in tournaments throughout the Southern California region. In addition to the ongoing club activities, Poway Polo is the founding club of the USPA Military Tournament, member of the Pacific Coast Arena League, and host club for the annual Russ Sheldon Memorial Polo Tournament.

Outside of our organized practices and club chukkers members of our club have access to instruction from our USPA certified instructors,  umpiring, and practice facilities seven days a week through our association with the Poway Valley Rides Association.

Poway polo is a community where for many members the experience of polo is passed down

generation to generation, creating a equestrian experience for the entire family. We encourage our non-playing members to actively participate in club social functions and fill integral roles within our club, assisting in the overall success and growth of our polo club and community.

Sherry Sheldon Gibson a member of the United States Polo Association, coach of Poway's interscholastic team, and daughter of Poway Polo Club founder Russ Sheldon has been an integral part of the polo community for over 20 years.

Sherry has been a successful interscholastic team coach with 2 National Championships, 2 National Runner Up Championships, and 6 Western Regional Championships teams during the course of her coaching career. An equestrian instructor for over 30 years in the disciplines of polo, general horsemanship, and barrel racing, she has been and continues to this day to be an  intricate part of Poway polo and the equestrian community.

As an instructor and coach Sherry brings an immense amount of knowledge and experience to the members of Poway polo club. Her playing career in the sport of polo, coupled with her equestrian skills, and coaching track record provide the members of our club an invaluable resource in all areas related to equestrian endeavors and the sport of polo.
